2025-04-22 | MORRIS COMMUNITY SAFE ROOM GUIDELINES AND RULES
Morris Public Schools is fortunate to have a safe room for the students
and community. There are guidelines to go over as the severe weather
season is fast approaching.
● During school hours, students, staff, and daycares in the area have priority for
Safe Room occupancy.
● The Safe Room is open only to the public when a tornado warning or a severe
weather event with winds in excess of 75 mph has been issued in our area
and/or the outdoor warning sirens have been sounded.
● The Safe Room will remain open only until the warning is lifted. When the
warning expires and it is determined safe to do so, the Safe Room must be
evacuated.
● During school hours, Morris Public School maintenance personnel will open
the safe room and will be on duty to maintain the facility and to close it after the
watch and/or warning expires.
● After school hours a SCHOOL OFFICIAL AND A VOLUNTEER from
Okmulgee Emergency Management will be in charge of opening the safe
room when a possible tornado is approaching the area.
● Expectation of the rules and procedures, MUST BE followed at all times.
Please follow the directions of the Safe Room Manager/Supervisor or other
school personnel at all times. RULES FOR THE PUBLIC:
● Parking-Southwest door. Gate will be open on the southwest side.
● Weapons are prohibited in the Safe Room and on all school property.
● Smoking or the use of tobacco in any form is prohibited in Safe Rooms and on all
school property.
● Alcohol and drugs (other than those prescribed by a doctor) are prohibited in
Safe Rooms and on all school property.
● Service animals are allowed in the safe room, but must have a proper
identification vest.
● Pets are not allowed in the shelter unless they are confined in an
airline-approved carrier. Pets must remain under the possession
and control of the owner at all times.
● Radios or music devices may be used only with individual earphones.
● Safe Room doors must be closed at all times.
● It is mandatory to follow the directions of the Safe Room manager or school
administrator at all times.

The City of Morris has scheduled a public hearing for Monday
August 13, 2024. The purpose of this hearing is to discuss making an
application for the Oklahoma Department of Commerce Capital
Improvement planning (CIP) funds.
The public hearing is scheduled to allow any interested citizens
the opportunity to provide input regarding the above project. All
